Over the past few months, I’ve been trying different AI math tools to help with school-especially math. Between homework, quizzes, and practice, I’ve used pretty much every online tool from Photomath to ChatGPT. But the two main tools that stand out to me are Math GPT and StarSpark. I didn’t expect to have strong opinions about AI study tools, but after trying MathGPT and StarSpark during a busy week of homework and test prep, I do.
At first glance, both tools seem pretty similar—they're AI tools that can solve math problems, explain steps, and (supposedly) help you study smarter. I went in assuming they’d work very similarly, but after using them side by side for a few weeks, I noticed some key differences between Math GPT and StarSpark.
Fast Help vs. Real Understanding
MathGPT is a great tool if you need to solve a problem quickly. It’s clean, it’s fast, and the answers are usually accurate. It does what it promises: you type in a problem, and it gives you the answer with some steps. I liked using it when I was stuck on one question and needed a quick answer.
MathGPT is fast and reliable. I could trust the answers and use it anytime I needed. For late-night homework problems or double-checking answers, it's convenient. It is also useful for math problems you've already mastered, but need just a quick refresher. I found myself using it when I was doing practice problems and needed to confirm I was on the right track.
But after a few days, I realized that I wasn’t retaining the math concepts. I could get through assignments, but I didn’t always feel like I understood the “why" behind the problems I was solving.
Extra Tools That Caught Me Off Guard
That’s where StarSpark made the difference. Like MathGPT, it acts as a mathematics tutor, but it felt more personalized and comprehensive, trying to teach me the concept, not just give me the answer. With every problem I was trying to solve, I was provided more context, explaining things in a way that matched how I think. If I got stuck, the app would provide follow-up questions till I answered the question correctly. Compared to MathGPT, the experience was better. Solving problems felt like a warm conversation with a friendly tutor, rather than a command-response.
What truly pushed StarSpark ahead was the platform's ability to provide more math support beyond just solving problems. The study guide generator, sample tests, and AI study guide maker gave me tons of practice problems to help prep for tests.
Another standout feature for StarSpark is its ability to handle multiple subjects in one place. I could jump from algebra to physics questions without starting over.
MathGPT couldn’t handle the complexity across a variety of math subjects. It stayed focused on the answers it gave, while StarSpark felt personalized and detailed every step of the way.
So… Which One’s Better?
Honestly? Both tools have their strengths.
If you are looking for a math tool that will help you solve your math homework quickly and get quick answers to problems, MathGPT is a solid choice. But if you are looking for a more supportive experience, want to understand the math problems you are solving, master difficult concepts, get personalized support based on your learning style, and gain knowledge across multiple different classes, StarSpark is the clear winner.
